The decision to close Lb Cakes has not been easy. Since it may come as a surprise to some, I believe it is important to explain the reasons behind this choice in more detail:
- Stress: The pressure to create perfect cakes for celebrations can be overwhelming. As a perfectionist, I put a lot of stress on myself to deliver flawless results. If a cake doesn't meet my high standards, I'll start over. Unfortunately, this level of stress is taking a toll on my well-being and outweighs the monetary benefits.
- Competitive Pricing: Over the past couple of years, it has become increasingly difficult to price my cakes competitively. Rising costs of ingredients, supplies, and packaging make it challenging to profit from my orders. If I were to charge appropriately, customers might not be willing to pay the higher prices. This financial strain makes it unsustainable to continue this as a side-gig.
- Time Commitment: Running a cake business, on top of a full-time job, is incredibly time-consuming. From shopping for ingredients, to baking, decorating, cleaning up, and waiting for customers to pick up their orders, my schedule is filled with cake-related tasks. This leaves very little time for personal commitments or spending quality time with loved ones. The business has started to negatively impact my relationships and overall work-life balance.
